PC/G focus on HIV prevention activities in rural undeserved areas of Guatemala. Post will coordinate and facilitate 6 technical TOT workshops targeting community leaders and services providers from the MOH and MOE in order to increase the local capacity, knowledge, skills and resources on remote rural sites of western Guatemala. The workshops incorporate a leadership component and have emphasis on gender inequities and stigma and discrimination. Discrimination in indigenous departments is high and in some instances Volunteers play a unique role in reach hidden/hard-to-reach key populations and link them to testing and other HIV services available in nearby towns. Furthermore, community grants will allow for more community-based HIV/AIDS awareness and education trainings to occur to reach additional youth, women and men. PC/G place Volunteers in local Government and NG organizations for assignments designed to build community capacity to sustain projects. PC/G integrates HIV programming as a cross sectorial theme in order to reach populations that are not reached by other USG partners, mainly in rural areas of Guatemala. Volunteers work with local health workers to strengthen their capacity to provide adequate prevention education, counseling and testing services, and dignified care and treatment.

Due to the updated OGAC COP Guidance, Peace Corps is including this IM for the first time even though similar activities have been implemented and tracked in prior years; so, this is why there is a pipeline and burn rate for a new mechanism – to accurately capture the historical data.

Mechanism Target Information

Since COP2014, PEPFAR no longer produces narratives for every mechanism it funds. However, PEPFAR has now included performance targets or indicator information for each mechanism based on the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting (MER) system. The MER guidance is available on PEPFAR's website https://www.pepfar.gov/reports/guidance/. Note that COP years 2014-2015 were under a previous version of the MER system and the indicators and definitions may have changed as of the new 2.0 guidance.
